Simple android application to read whatsapp

Since I'm unable to use the mobile frequently, I needed a way to listen to incoming voice messages. There are plenty of applications on the market. However, the features are not listed properly. For example, there were apps that seem to claim that they will read whatsapp messages but all they did was to read out the name of the person who had sent the message.

The two which worked for me were:

  1. Read it to me: this has got a comprehensive list of features and will read out SMS and whatsapp. You can also choose the contacts for which it will not read out the messages. However, the main issue was that after the trial period, it will require you to buy the feature to read out whatsapp messages.
  2. Message reader for whatsapp: this is a very simple app that just works only for whatsapp but has got the ability to not read out the incoming messages in a whatsapp group. This was free and since I needed only the ability to read out whatsapp messages, I chose it over the earlier application.
Note that while both of the applications read whatsapp for me on the mobile phone without any issues, on the tablet, both of them are read all the unread whatsapp messages every time there was a new message.

So, for example, if I had 5 messages that I had not read but I had listened to, and there was a 6th message, then both applications would read out all the 6 messages. I saw this behaviour only on the tablet. I checked it on both Lenovo and Nexus tablet. I have yet to figure out the cause for this.

It seems though it has to do with the notification stream. In all the devices including the mobile phone, I had android marshmallow installed so the version of the operating system does not seem to make any difference.

Strengthening Exercises While Being Bedridden

If you are frequently bedridden due to illnesses like chronic pain, chances are that you will tend to lose muscle mass. Less muscle strength can lead to increase pain thus causing a vicious cycle of chronic pain. It is important therefore to find a way to exercise and strengthen the muscle despite being bedridden.

Over the years, I have found myself frequently to be in this situation due to fibromyalgia.  There are several videos about exercises for the bedridden patients(for example, this). However, the exercises in these are more to improve mobility rather than increase muscle strength. Ultimately, I spent quite a bit of time compiling a list of exercises from YouTube that exercise and strengthen every major muscle group.  The list is provided below along with the major muscle groups that they exercise. As I have suffered from injuries because of using weights incorrectly, I recommend trying only with the resistance bands initially and that is what I have included in the list.

How This Ayurvedic Herb Helped Me Safely Withdraw from Antidepressants

As a patient with chronic pain, I have to try out different painkillers and antidepressants to manage my pain. Most of these medications, especially the antidepressants, have side effects that include increased dependence and, therefore, can cause withdrawal symptoms. Depending on the duration and the dosage of the medication, these symptoms can range from a mere inconvenience to brutal and long-lasting health problems.

I myself faced tremendous difficulty while trying to wean myself off an antidepressant called amitriptyline. Like many of its counterparts, amitryptiline also has drowsiness as one of its side effects. Consequently, insomnia as a result of withdrawal from amitriptyline was a major problem for me. From a high of 75 mg, I was able to reduce the dosage to 25 mg at the rate of 5- 10  mg every fortnight without much trouble. However, reducing dosage from 25 mg onwards was a nightmare - no pun intended. I started experiencing disturbing vivid dreams that made it impossible …
