Dragon NaturallySpeaking tutorial : Using a mouse with speech recognition on Windows

In this Dragon NaturallySpeaking tutorial, I demonstrate  the use of mouse with Dragon NaturallySpeaking .

Literature describing how to move the Mouse Up, Down,Right or Left using Dragon Naturally Speaking is easily accessible over the Internet. However, operations like how to move the mouse diagonally are not described clearly.

Additionally, even though Mouse Grid is a command that is commonly used, there is not much information suggesting how that command can be used in combination with the Mouse Move commands quickly move the mouse. Likewise, there is also not much mention of changing the speed of mouse.

I describe all of this  in the YouTube video below. .

I hope you find the video useful. Updates, if any, will be appended to the end of this post.

List of Commands Described in the Video:

  1. To Move the Mouse Vertically Upwards, say "Mouse Move Up"
  2. To Move the Mouse Vertically Downwards, say "Mouse Move Down"
  3. To Move the Mouse Horizontally to the Right, say "Mouse Move Right"
  4. To Move the Mouse Horizontally to the Left, say "Mouse Move Left"
  5. To Move the Mouse Diagonally to the Left Bottom, say "Mouse Move Bottom Left"
  6. To Move The Mouse Diagonally to the Right Bottom, say "Mouse Move Bottom Right"
  7. To Move the Mouse Diagonally to the Left Top, say "Mouse Move Top Left"
  8. To Move the Mouse Diagonally to the Right Top, say "Mouse Move Top Right"
  9. To Increase the Speed of the Mouse, say "Fast", or "Very Fast".

About Dragon NaturallySpeaking:

Dragon NaturallySpeaking is the most popular speech recognition software on PC.Dragon Dictate is the counterpart of Dragon NaturallySpeaking on Apple Macintosh computers.

At the time of writing This blog post, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Individual 15 is the recommended version for most users. However, I continue to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking premium 13 because of its incompatibility with Natlink.  You can download Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Individual 15 here.

Update: For a change, Nuance has got good documentation for the mouse commands at https://goo.gl/d91HXx.

Note that it also includes documentation on how to hold the SHIFT key while moving the mouse.

If you wish to hold the mouse down while dragging, you have to say the command "Left Mouse Hold down". For releasing the mouse, you have to say the command "Left Mouse Release".

Reduce finger, wrist and forearm pain due to computer mouse usage with Gentle Mouse

If you are reading this on a computer screen, chances are that you would have clicked your mouse at least a couple of times to navigate through this content. And in most cases, the finger used to click would be your index finger. Now imagine doing this repetitive movement every few minutes, day after day, year after year and you can easily infer that your fingers are at an increased risk of repetitive stress injury (or RSI) due to mouse overuse.

The common name given to this painful condition is  Mouse Finger.  The 'Finger' in Mouse Finger usually leads a person to believe that the pain is restricted to the fingers alone.  However, from what I have surmised after reviewing anecdotal evidence and medical literature, it commonly presents as a cluster of symptoms in the finger, wrist and the forearm. Perhaps that explains why there are no easily available research studies pertaining to Mouse Finger alone. Most of the research studies consider these symptoms as a part of  Carpal …

How I Healed My Shoulder Tendinitis

Shoulder Tendinitis is a common cause of shoulder pain. A more accurate term for it is Rotator Cuff Tendinitis. It means that one or more of tendons that make up the rotator cuff are inflamed. In my experience, even though this is not a serious injury, it is often debilitating and takes a long time to heal. I have had three recurring episodes of shoulder tendinitis in the last one year. I tried a variety of treatments but in the end, Kinesiology Tape along with frequent icing proved to be the most effective approach.

Here is an account of my experience.
The initial symptoms
I developed shoulder tendinitis for the first time in my life due to shoulder pull ups. I was doing the pull ups as a part of a physiotherapy regimen to help me become functional after multiple years of disabling neck pain. Since I was also suffering from chronic abdominal pain, I was unable to lift any weights. So in order to rebuild the upper body strength, the physiotherapist suggest…
